ABOUT COREY RODGERS

INSPIRED BY THE PAST TO CARVE OUT A FUTURE IN WOOD

MY PASSION DEVELOPED EARLY

My fascination with wood and boats started early. As a boy I watched my grandfather carve intricate shapes out of wood and listened to stories from his time in the Navy. Those images stuck with me, and as time passed, I developed a passion for travel and being in and around the ocean. At eighteen I joined the U.S. Coast Guard where I was crew aboard the cutter Eagle, a three masted tall ship. During my time on the Eagle, I crossed the Atlantic to Spain and the Mediterranean, and visited many ports along the East Coast, South America and the Caribbean Islands. After two years on the Eagle, I was stationed in San Francisco, CA where I helped to maintain aids to navigation and met my beautiful wife.

NORTHWEST SCHOOL OF WOODEN BOAT BUILDING

After my time in San Fransisco, we built a “Tiny Home” on wheels and moved to Washington’s Olympic Peninsula where I attended the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding. I completed both the Large Craft and Yacht interior programs to earn an Associate of Occupational Studies degree and, upon graduation, spent some time in an internship with the school.

OVER 10 YEARS OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Soon after graduating from boatbuilding school, we sold our tiny home and moved back to my wife’s home town of Stuart, Florida, where we now live with our three children. Over the next few years I helped build new wooden sport fishing yachts at Jim Smith Tournament Boats and worked for Hinckley Yacht Services repairing and maintaining vessels of all shapes and sizes. After ten years of professional experience and knowledge gained through the help of many great craftsmen and mentors, I decided to start Rodgers Woodcraft.

“My goal as a business owner is to bring the highest level of quality and craftsmanship to every project, while building lasting relationships, and contributing to the craft and marine trade communities of the treasure coast. I look forward to working with you.”
